Personalities of Hunedoara

Within Hunedoara great figures of Romanian culture and science were born and formed along the years:

• the humanist Nicolae Olahus (1493 - 1568) one of the most important representatives of the Transylvanian School,

• Ion BudaiDeleanu (1763 - 1820) from the well known Densuseanu Family, which entered their names in the pantheon of the Romanian culture,

• Aron Densusianu (1873 - 1900),

• the historian Nicolae Densusianu (1846 - 1911),

• the linguist and literary historian Ovid Densusianu (1873 - 1938),

• the folklorist Ion Pop Reteganul (1852 - 1905),

• the historian Silviu Dragomir (1882 - 1962),

• the orator Francisc Hossu Longin (1847 - 1935),

• the poet and publicist Sebastian Bornemisa (1892 - 1952),

• Nerva Hodos (1869 - 1913) culture figure and famous bibliographer,

• Aurel Vlaicu (1882 - 1913), pioneer of the Romanian and world-wide aviation,

• G. Todica (1877 - 1946) researcher and publicist,

• the lawyer Aurel Vlad (1875 - 1953),

and after 1940 the writers: Vlaicu Barna, Romul Munteanu, I.D.Sarbu, M. Santimbreanu, M. Vaida, Marcel Petrisor, G. Timcu, Nicolae Tic etc.
