surface is of 281,093 ha. The agricultural surface in relation to the
soil quality and relief form is divided on usage categories such as:
- 80.518 ha arable land
- 117.307 ha natural grass land

82.185 ha natural grass-land

1.076 ha fruit tree meadows

13 ha grape vine
The agricultural surface set up for irrigation is of 2,838 ha
whereof the arable irrigated surface 1,818 ha. Because of the
specific soil and clime conditions agriculture is oriented towards
obtaining cereal and a green crop based production. The main
agricultural products are: cereals corns (wheat, rye, oat, barley),
corn, potatoes, sugar beet, vegetables, fruits. Within animal
diversity the balance is held by bovines, swine, ovine, caprine and
poultry. The forests and other terrains with forest vegetation occupy
a surface of 312,382 ha of the total forest fund:
- conifer forests: 86,801 ha;
- broad-leaves trees forests: 205,152 ha
from this point of view the County of Hunedoara holding the 3rd
place within the country.
Annually a wooden mass of approximately 500 - 600 thousand cubic
metres is performed by means of regeneration and maintenance cutting
of young trees sold towards the population and economic agents. Also
important quantities of forest fruits, medicinal plants, comestible
mushrooms, forage, seeds, hunting meat are sold.. The main hunt is
the Carpathian deer, the lynx and the mountain rooster. The waters
and meadows fens cover a surface of 5,746 ha and the surface occupied
by other types of terrain is 34,730 ha.
