Health care

Health care is assured by means of medical assistance granted to population within medical-sanitary units: hospitals, polyclinics, urban and rural medical dispensaries.

The county is covered by 14 hospitals whereof 2 neuro-psychiatric facilities and 2 sanatoriums, returning, within the hospitals 1 bed per 103 citizens and within the sanatoriums 1 bed per 1.014 citizens. Primary medical assistance is assured by a network of dispensaries, in 1994 a number of 166 municipal, city, commune and enterprises dispensaries were functioning.

Ambulatory medical assistance is insured by means of the 18 polyclinics existent in the county. Within the health care system an important place is taken for mother and child care who benefit of specialty institutions: maternities, obstetric-gynecologic departments and pediatric departments. Also the blood transfusion center with two laboratories and rescue stations insure promptitude and quality regarding urgent medical assistance.

The medicine for the population is insured by means of the 58 pharmacies and 6 pharmaceutical points, the majority being private ones.

The tasks within the health care area is performed by a number of 1,064 physicians, one physician serving an average of 515 citizens and by means of 3,482 sanitary employees, an average frame at 157 citizens, 53 pharmacists and 95 chemists and biologists.
